WOODSTOCK - Theatre Woodstock has big plans for its 80th season!

The theatre revealed the show lineup during the 2026/2027 season rollout event on Wednesday, April 1st.

Everything will get started with Dracula: The Chamber Musical from October 16th to October 25th, just in time for Halloween. It's a Canadian production, and it has been sitting in the back pocket of Artistic Director Shannon Wijinker since she first saw it in Stratford back in 1999.

"It's an amazing show with only seven singers. It's very musically involved and intense show with instrumentalists playing along. I am just so excited because everybody loves Dracula and it's right around Halloween so it's perfect timing!"

President Emil Wijinker says they also have a great show planned for November 17th to December 6th, as everyone gets excited for the holidays.

"We've got A Christmas Story! So that classic tale of Ralphie, the BB gun, and everything. We've got that going on in November and December and we're very excited to bring that 1940s family Christmas setting to the stage in Woodstock."

Fast forward to 2027, everything will get started with a performance of Avenue Q from February 19th to February 28th. The show will feature puppets, similar to Sesame Street, but it's not suitable for children. Shannon says it's a bit racy and adults will love it.

"It is so much fun and it pushes boundaries, so we're so excited to have that on our stage in February."

The next production will be a tear jerker. Strangers Among Us is about two people who Alzheimer's who fall in love, forget each other, and fall in love again. It will hit the stage from April 2nd to April 11th, but Emil says it was supposed to make its Theatre Woodstock debut seven years prior.

"This was the show that we intended to put on in the spring of 2020. Our cast and crew had prepared everything right up until a month before opening, and then the world shut down."

The senior STAGES program will end the season with the Mean Girls musical from May 7th to May 16th. Shannon is looking forward to the auditions starting in the fall.

"A lot of the high school students got really excited when they heard that we were doing this show, so I think it's going to be amazing!"

The senior STAGES program consists of high school students in grades 9 to 12.

Season subscriptions for these five performances are currently available for $100 online here, which works out to to $20 for each show. Single tickets for these shows are not available yet.

Shannon is also looking forward to what the younger STAGES program has in store for the 2026/2027 season. She says they have a wintery themed double feature planned for January 22nd to January 24th.

"This year we have Frozen Kids, which the first stagers are doing in the fall. Then we have The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, which is what the second stagers are going to be doing in the fall."

The first stagers are in grades 2 to 6, and the second stagers are in grades 7 to 8.

Shannon says the spring double feature will hit the stage from June 11th to June 13th.

"The first stagers are going to be doing Treasure Island and our second stagers are going to be doing Oliver Jr."

Shannon and Emil Wijinker stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday, April 7th. You can listen to the full interview below:
