The average homeowner will see an increase of about $133 on the city's portion of their property tax bill.

WOODSTOCK - It was a long Woodstock City Council meeting discussing the budget.

Over 30 motions were debated during the meeting, but when all was said and done Council did approve the 2026 Revenue Budget. Mayor, Jerry Acchione says what the numbers look like.

"We have a total levy of $88,140,000, which is a 6.9% increase. An effective rate, once you take growth away, is at 4.11%. So, it did come in a fair bit less than anybody ever guessed."

During the debates, there was one topic that became a hot button issue. A motion was put forward to put money aside now for the new Rec Centre, which had council very passionate on either side. Acchione mentions there was a request made when it came to the vote.

"In fact, it was the only recorded vote we had tonight. So, it did pass 4 to 3, being successful to put $350,000 aside for the future rec facility."

He said this was his 12th budget and it was by far the toughest one to deal with. Acchione says the City is growing and aging, so that means more money will have to be spent to make sure the residents are getting what they need.

Acchione adds when all is said and done, the average homeowner will see an increase of roughly $133 on the city's portion of their property tax bill. He also wanted to thank all the City Staff that took the time to look at where they could save funds, and also take the time at the meeting to answer any questions that were had. Acchione also thanked the Councilors for having healthy debate and sticking through the process.
