Woodstock Hydro won Elster Solution Awards in the Green and Clean Category and the award for innovation.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Hydro is getting some recognition for their efforts to produce green and clean energy in the Friendly City.
They won two Elster Solution Awards in New Orleans recently in the Green and Clean Category and the award for most innovative. Manager of Operations Jay Heaman tells Heart FM they were also asked to make a presentation at the energy conference earlier this month.
"Woodstock Hydro, as many know, have been working on a small grid project that essentially brings distributive energy resources such as solar photovoltaic, energy storage controllers, electric vehicles and others into a small area."
Heaman says they also presented their project in Texas and have gotten some really positive comments from international judges on their micro grid project. Heaman tells Heart FM they have gotten a lot support locally for their renewable energy projects.
"In Woodstock we have had a great history of innovation of conservation and people have really stepped up over the past 20 years and so the natural evolution is to start to introduce renewable energy and energy storage technologies and so when we had the opportunity to build something in the downtown core, but more importantly was to reach out to different agencies. So we have connected with York University and Ryerson University for research and we have teamed up with the Woodstock Art Gallery to try and create a public presence of renewable energy."
