News of Woodstock Hydro's possible sale to Hydro One isn't causing shockwaves at the utility.
Woodstock Hydro staff were informed of the move on Thursday afternoon.
President & CEO Ross McMillan says staff were concerned, but are aware this is a trend in their industry. "Well anytime there is potential for a change, it could be unsettling. But when I had my discussion with staff I did stress that the Mayor and Council, one of their primary concerns is protecting the employees of Woodstock Hydro."
Woodstock Hydro currently employs 39 people, who McMillan says are well aware of ongoing consolidation in their industry. "Obviously there is concern, but they are knowledgeable staff. I've always kept them abreast of the distribution sector panel report, the Drummond Report, so they are aware of what has transpired in the industry."
While the announcement that the city is looking to sell off its utility is unsettling for life at Woodstock Hydro, McMillan says it's a shrewd move. "You know, it's a wise decision to investigate all options to ensure that you're providing the best value for your customers, and the community."
Hydro One will make a proposal to city council on a takeover early next year.
Until anything happens, McMillan says it is going to be businesses as usual at Woodstock Hydro.
