City Council approved funding to find a new CEO for the Woodstock Library as Gary Baumbach steps down.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Library will have new Chief Executive Officer.
Gary Baumbach will step aside."I have been here 7 years I've been in the library profession for 28 years, the time is right for me to move on. The staff here is absolutely exceptional! When I got here they were keen to try any new idea that you would put on the table, they were behind you and they were really really committed to serving the community in a responsive manner and that is something I going to miss."
Woodstock City Council approved funding to seek out a new CEO. They will be releasing $30 000 from the library's reserves to recruit a new CEO of the Woodstock Library.
Baumbach feels the time is right to resign and explained the reserve fund process. "The board does have what is called reserve funds, and those reserve funds are held by the City of Woodstock. Each year in our operating budget if there are any surpluses we can request of council to put some of those surplus funds into one of our reserves. In order to access one of those reserve funds because they are held at the city we have to make a formal request."
As the hunt begins Baumbach is hopeful the library board will pick a good candidate as it is a very important role. "Hiring a Chief Executive Officer is the most important decision a library will make. The total package of expertise to actually make that decision does not sit with the board, the board is there to govern. It is very important that the board has a 3rd party that they can work through to find a Chief Executive Officer who is worthy of this really special library."
