The Woodstock Navy Vets will host the Stratford Warriors in their home opener at Southwood Arena on Saturday September 12th.

WOODSTOCK - The first Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) season is around the corner in Woodstock.

The Navy Vets are looking to make their mark in the league as they have made the jump to Junior B from the Junior C's Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL). Team President Devon Young says the transition has been a lot of work, but also good because of the support from the community. He also says what he thinks the team will look like this year.

"In general, though, I think we have a fast-paced team with a decent amount of skill. We'll see how much skill. I like what I've seen so far, and I know that Darren and the group are really impressed so far. We'll just have to see where it all shakes out when we get going in regular season."

Young mentions there are four players from the team last year on the roster. He adds their goaltending duo has also looked good in the three pre-season games the team has played. Young also talks about how the fans have always been behind the team.

"We always hope for more. We love to grow our fan base every single year, of course. I do think we'll see some good crowds coming in from some of the other locations as well."

Those fans will have their first opportunity to see the Vets on home ice in the regular season when they host the Stratford Warriors on September 12th. If you would like to look at the entire regular season schedule for the Navy Vets, you can click here.

Devon Young stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Cody and Marcie on Thursday, August 27th. You can listen to the full interview below:
