Emilia Perez, The Brutalist, and Wicked included
HOLLYWOOD - The nominees have been announced for the 97th annual Academy Awards.
Emilia Perez has been nominated for 13 awards including Best Picture, Directing, and International Feature Film. Karla Sofía Gascón has also made history as the first trans woman to be nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Some of the other major film nominees include The Brutalist, Wicked, Conclave, and A Complete Unknown.
Looking at the Canadian representation, Quebec-born filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has received a Best Picture nomination for Dune: Part Two. Toronto's very own Linda Muir is also up for Best Costume Design for her work on Nosferatu.
Sugarcane by Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie has also been nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Kassie is a Toronto journalist and NoiseCat is part of the Secwepemc First Nation in British Columbia.
The Oscars winners will be announced at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday March 2nd.
