Mayor Trevor Birtch says 2017 was another amazing year of growth for the city of Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - 2017 was a very positive year for the city of Woodstock.
The city adopted a new sponsorship program, which helped name the ball diamonds at Cowan Fields. The program will also help businesses, service clubs and individuals sponsor city property in the future, whether it be a sports facility or a couple of trees in a park.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says 2017 was also a year of growth for the Friendly City.
"We saw the expansion of residential at an unprecedented rate as well as many new businesses coming to our city."
The city also acquired about 1,500 acres of property from Norwich Township in the area of the 401-403 overpass. Birtch says they are getting ready to go into their secondary planning stage for the area.
"We're looking forward to connecting all the dots and having pipes in the ground. This will also give us an opportunity to fully utilize the lands that were brought into the city of Woodstock years ago from Blandford Blenheim."
The lands will allow commercial and industrial growth for Woodstock.
Birtch adds there will be also new apartment buildings on the rise in 2018, in order to alleviate some of the stress on the housing market.
