Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll is looking to expand their cardiac rehabilitation services, but they can't do it alone.
INGERSOLL - Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll is reaching out to corporate sponsors to enhance their cardiac rehab centre.
The centre that serves residents from various parts of Oxford County currently has 30 people on their waiting list looking to get help. Nurse Case Manager for Oxford County's Cardiac Rehab Centre, Judy Winter, knows the money will be put to good use in Ingersoll. "We know that people who participate in cardiac rehab actually improve their survival rates by about 25%. Funds are limited and the reason for more funding would be we could intake more patients, and provide them with more exercise time so that we could expand to another day or two so we could bring in more people."
As the hunt is on for corporate sponsors to allow the centre to expand Winter explains why there is a need for cardiac rehab. "We have about 30 people present who are waiting to come in. I think most people look and say we have just elderly people who need cardiac rehab. Unfortunately our average age is about 52 which means we have people in their 30's who are exercising currently with us and people that are in their 80's." While a financial goal hasn't been announced on how much they want to raise any little bit helps and sponsorship would be a big boost to the Ingersoll Hospital.
"Woodstock, Tillsonburg, and the Ingersoll area are all about a third of the people that we see," says Winter. "We are trying to expand so that we can see more patients - there are 30-50% more people who are eligible to have cardiac rehab that don't come into the programs. We'd like to reach those people so that they can have cardiac rehab too."
September 18th a Walk for Life will take place in Victoria park to raise money and awareness.
