Nancy and Gary Hansen met with members of the Artemis Explorers Club at IDCI yesterday.
INGERSOLL - It was a special day for students at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (IDCI).
Jennifer Rowe, the Staff Advisor for the Artemis II Explorers Club, says some special guests stopped by for a presentation yesterday.
"Mr. and Mrs. Hansen, these are Jeremy's parents, Nancy and Gary, came to the school to see what the Artemis Club has been working on."
Their son, IDCI alumni Jeremy Hansen, will become the first Canadian astronaut to circle around the moon once the Artemis II Mission takes off this year.
Grade 11 student Carter Minielli says lots of great information was shared during the Hansen's visit.
"What they had mentioned is he'd always kind of mentioned it. And that's kind of interesting because you don't really know what you're going to do sometimes as a young kid. And he's kind of always stuck with it his whole life."
Connor Thomson, another Grade 11 student, talked about some of the things the Club has been doing.
"We're going to decorate the school and make the theme. So once launch day is prepared and coming, the entire school will have the theme set."
The Club has a goal to celebrate Hansen and help others learn about the Artemis mission. Rowe adds the students were read a letter from the Canadian Space Agency directed to the Artemis Club, as well as were given different keep sakes by Mr. and Mrs. Hansen.
