Since June 3rd police have been called out to 12 fires set in the Friendly City. The first blaze happened at 1 a.m when a garbage bag was set on fire at a home on Mill Street. Then on July 1st three young men were arrested after setting gas cans on fire at Devonshire Ave. On July 17th two separate fires were set at 1:50 a.m. on Kendall Ave and then at 2:05 a.m on Henry Street. Three males, two kids and one adult were spotted in the area at the time of the fires. The most costly blaze happened on July 21st when a fire was set at the Huron Park Baptist Church on Berwick street causing $30,000 to the shed and the Church building.
The most recent fires happened last Wednesday, Thursday and then this Tuesday in Woodstock. On July 29th a passenger's seat was set on fire causing $300 in damage then on the 30th two fires were set in the area of Pavey St. and Alice St. causing another $60 dollars in Damage. On Tuesday morning between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m police and fire responded to four separate fires. They all occurred in residential areas that were in close proximity to one another. A couch, the contents of two recycle boxes and other garbage was set on fire. Approximately $120.00 worth of damage was caused. Two young males were observed in the area of these fires. One suspect is described to be a white male, with shaggy red hair, wearing a red ball cap backwards.
Remarkable nobody was injured in any these fires. Police are concerned with the number of arson's in the Friendly City over the past two months. They are not saying at this time if the arson's are all related. Anyone with information is asked to contact Woodstock Police or Crime Stoppers.
