The 13th annual Gord Marshall Ladies Fastball Tournament will feature some of the best players in Country.
INNERKIP - Some of the best fastball players in the country will be in Innerkip this summer for the 13th annual Gord Marshall Memorial Ladies Tournament.
Innerkip Umpires Association Media Rep Kyle Smith says 23 teams have signed up this year and they are coming from all across the Country.
"We are pretty excited about the caliber of teams once again this year, probably some of the best, especially in the tier 1 division, we have the Canadian Champion the Whitby Eagles coming back, past champions Chepstow Diamonds, as far as women's fastball there probably isn't another tournament that will show you the ability that these ladies are going to."
Over the past decade the event has donated $110,000 to the Oxford County Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society. They have also raised thousands of dollars to the Innerkip Parks and Recreation Committee. Smith tells Heart FM that this year they will once again be supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford County.
"Unfortunately Innerkip has been touched the last couple of years by some tragic unfortunate stories of mental health and we feel it is neccessary that we give back and help bring some awareness to those causes and try to help those who are struggling with mental health."
Oxford County CMHA executive director Mike McMahon adds, "the Oxford Branch is focused on offering walk-in services for those with mental health and addiction needs. All community-generated funding, including the 13th annual Gord Marshall Memorial Ladies’ Fastball Tournament supports Oxford County Walk-In Counseling."
The tournament is happening from July 7 to 10th at the Innerkip Sports Field.
