Operation Sharing has been at the forefront of helping those who are less fortunate in our community.
WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing conducted a deputation at the Oxford County Council Meeting today.
They provided on update on some of the services they run in the community. One thing they really wanted to highlight was the success of the Bullwinkle's Eatery which just started this year. Bullwinkle's is a new concept and has replaced the soup kitchen Operation Sharing used to run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bullwinkle's is a partnership between Operation Sharing, the Salvation Army and the Moose Family Centre. It operates on a sliding scale and is run like a restaurant where business people and the less fortunate can come together for a meal. It also has a culinary program to provide real life training to people looking to get into that field.
Extended Family Project Coordinator Eric Schmiedl says they also wanted to talk about their Food For Friends program at council.
"Which supplies food cards to people in need, they are financed by donations at the till at participating grocery stores and participating local businesses pitch in as well and do collections."
The Food cards allow people in need to do their grocery shopping at an actual grocery store, instead of having to rummage through a Food Bank. He adds the community of Oxford County continues to be generous with Food for Friends, however they could always use some more quarters.
