Mayor Ted Comiskey warns Ingersoll's winter maintenance could go over budget.
INGERSOLL - Woodstock isn't the only Oxford municipality at risk of going over their Winter Roads budget for 2014.
"We are not in too bad a shape if the snow stays away the majority of the time until the end of the year," says mayor Ted Comiskey. "We know that we are going to get caught a little bit with the fact that every time we have to pull the ploughs out, it's nibbling away on the remainder of our budget and our budget will run out if it's severe but we're hoping. Keeping our fingers crossed but we're not in too bad a shape."
"The budget actually goes from January until December 31. We had such a severe storm reaction last year with snow that it went very, very late into the season so we used a lot of our budget up."
Comiskey says when setting the budget for the year, it's based on an average from previous years. "We don't want to put dollars away that aren't going to be used because that's levy, that's tax dollars. Nor do we want to put too little away that we keep having to pull against reserves or having to open it up and make loans to borrow for road maintenance. What happened last year as every knew, the snow fall was phenomenal."
