The Coldest Night of the Year Walk was a great success in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, raising funds for United Way Oxford.
INGERSOLL/TILLSONBURG - It was another successful Coldest Night of the Year walk in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
Both events raised money for United Way Oxford, and the total for 2026 was over $104,000. The two communities welcomed over 275 people, who helped the Tillsonburg and Ingersoll Light Houses by raising funds. Executive Director, Kelly Gilson, says why it is important for the transitional housing to be in the communities.
"Transitional housing provides safe, supportive, and affordable housing that supports each resident’s unique needs and allows them time, space, and the assistance required to create a better future life. The amazing staff from our community partner, the Oxford County Community Health Centre, are there to lend a helping hand to every resident. CNOY funding helps United Way ensure that both Ingersoll and Tillsonburg have this vital housing program."
The Tillsonburg Light House opened in 2023 and has helped support 31 people, while in less than a year, the Ingersoll Light House has supported 14 people. Community Impact and Engagement Manager, Lindsay Wilson, shares her thoughts about the importance of transitional housing.
"Transitional housing has become an essential addition to our small community, filling a critical gap in support for residents when local services are limited. When we invest our resources in a housing-first approach, we’re investing in proven solutions that help residents regain stability and stay connected to their community."
United Way Oxford is sending out a huge thank you to the walkers, donors, volunteers, and community partners who helped make the event a big success. There is also a huge appreciation to the sponsors who made the event possible, which includes the lead sponsors ERTH Power and GM, as well as The Mill Inn & Eatery, who supplied the light dinner after the walk, so the people could enjoy and talk about the cause.
Planning has already begun for the walk next year, and it will take place on February 27th.
