Canada Post Responds

Canada Post wants the input of Woodstock and Ingersoll residents on community mailboxes.

WOODSTOCK - Canada Post is offering assurance that input from affected residents will be considered in the placing of community mailboxes in Woodstock and Ingersoll.

Spokesperson Anick Losier says an online survey of residents hopes to answer many questions from both sides of the decision.  "We're going to take this feedback and really look at the granular level and decide - well on this street there are more concerns about traffic, and on that street they would rather have a multi-site or clustered site further away from their street."  This information will be gathered over the next few weeks.

In addition to the online survey, there is also a dedicated 1-844 customer service number that Losier says residents can call with their concerns.  "We have an entire accommodation process that's going to work it out with you directly, the consumer, to say 'well, let's figure out the best way to get the mail to you' because in the end nobody is going to be left behind."

Losier says there are programs in place for people with mobility issues to receive their mail.

She says the timeline and specific site locations are still undetermined at this point, but assures residents that Canada Post will be responsible for all site maintenance including snow removal, gravel, and salting the area.  "We work with either a landowner or a municipality in terms of selecting the site, making sure that it's not in the way, it's in an area that's accessible to all, but at the same time kind of blends in to the urban design.  All the responsibility about the site itself is going to be ours."
