ONTARIO - More than 4,600 Unifor members have voted to ratify new three-year contracts with General Motors.

Members in Ingersoll voted 96.5 percent in favour over the weekend. Members in Woodstock, St. Catharines, and Oshawa voted 80.5 percent in support.

The agreements include more than $1 billion in planned investments. The Oshawa plan will receive $144 million for next-generation GMC Sierra Heavy-Duty production and the St. Catharines plane will get $215 million to produce a new transmission.

Most workers at CAMI are still on indefinite layoff and the agreement extends the Income Maintenance Plan to eligible members until May of 2028.

Unifor has also promised to continue in the fight to bring production back to Ingersoll. It says CAMI will be the first consideration if GM is awarded a contract for Canadian Armed Forces defense work.
