An online reporting service might help OPP notice trends in Oxford County.
Oxford OPP are letting the public know you can report occurrences from the comfort of your own home on your computer or even with your mobile phone.
Citizen Self Reporting has been available for awhile now and is intended for things like theft under $5 000, mischief, theft from a vehicle, or driving complaints. Constable Stacey Culbert says sometimes people don't want to report things because they don't want to wait for an officer to arrive. "For an example if somebody broke into your shed overnight and you thought, I don't need to report this, I don't want an officer to attend; we really want to see people calling in more often or reporting these crimes online so that we can now develop some information - some data collection - and that we're able to now understand what the trends our in the area and help us with patrols and get a better understanding of the criminal activity in Oxford County."
She says the driving complaints are for things like speeding, distracted driving, or blowing a stop sign. If you suspect a drunk driver or someone who is causing serious concerns on the road then you should still call 911. You can file your complaints online at www.opp.ca/reporting
