The Woodstock Fire Department is shining a light on the top three causes of fires in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department has launched a new public awareness campaign, utilizing the city's bus shelters.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says they have new ads that shine a light on the top three causes of fires in the Friendly City.
"Number one being electrical issues including lithium ion batteries, we still have a problem with improper disposal of cigarettes and smoking materials around town, and then we also have unattended cooking which is the leading cause of home fires across Canada and the United States."
They also have an ad that highlights the new law that requires carbon monoxide alarms to be on level of your home.
Circling back to electrical fires and lithium ion batteries, Woods says it's important that you always stay with the manufacterer and don't utilitize a second hand source like Amazon.
"If you have DeWalt tools, stay with DeWalt batteries, or Milwaukee with Milwaukee or Ryobi with Ryobi. You should also make sure they are in a cool, dry place and unplug them when they are finished charging."
The Woodstock Fire Department has utilized bus shelter ads for public awareness campaigns for the past few years now. Woods says the current ads should remain on display for at least three months.
If you can contact the fire department if you have any questions or concerns regarding fire safety.
