The Conservatives wanted the government to exempt taxes on the severance pay for CAMI employees.
UPDATE (February 10th @ 6:30 a.m.) - The federal Liberal government has rejected the request for tax exemption.
It says it can't unilaterally cut the income taxes for one group of people without doing so for others.

INGERSOLL/OTTAWA - The Conservative Party is calling on the Liberal government to exempt taxes on the severance pay for CAMI employees.
General Motors discontinued the production of the BrightDrop electric delivery van last year, affecting about 1,200 jobs in the area.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre wrote a letter to Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, that was also signed by Oxford MP Arpan Khanna and Conservative Shadow Minister for Labour Kyle Seeback.
It says the government tax withholds over 50 percent on the lump-sum payments to out-of-work employees, depriving them of tens of thousands of dollars at a time when they really need it.
Liberals are withholding 50% of the severance pay of 1,200 autoworkers who were laid off at GM CAMI in Ingersoll.

These families need that money now.
With MPs @ArpanKhanna and @KyleSeeback, I’m calling on the Minister to stop withholding half of their severance pay. pic.twitter.com/80ScV3PvjI
