Residents are invited to bring out all old mattresses, couches, and even construction debris to the second Bulk Item Depot Day
WOODSTOCK - Residents living in Woodstock looking to dispose of large items will have their chance.
Saturday August 8th will be the second and final Bulk Item Depot Day of the year in the city and while many items will be accepted for drop off, hazardous materials and appliances will not be. Public Works Superintendent for the City of Woodstock, Alex Piggott, outlines what will be accepted. "So residents can bring in anything in terms of construction debris - so drywall, wood, pressure treated lumber is also accepted at this event. We also accept the regular stuff we pick up on the curb at the large article - so the couches can come out to this event as well as the mattresses."
Piggott explains what will happen to the items once they are brought to the yard located at 944 James Street. "During the day we actually source separate it, so that anything that can be recycled like clean lumber can be mulched up and used as mulch for in and around the house and stuff like that. And white goods - obviously scrap metal. That can be diverted from going into the landfill." Those looking for somewhere to drop off hazardous materials can do so at the county landfill in Salford.
The Bulk Item Depot Day is free of charge and Piggott knows there is a need to have the two designated days a year and that it will be busy. "There's some people they go around and canvas the neighbourhood as well, so someone with a pickup truck and a trailer might go around and collect from a couple houses on their street and bring a bunch or mattresses and old dressers and construction debris. We see the odd person bring a couple of loads of material in, but generally it's a couple hundred cars a day."
