Nearly all the chairs were occupied Wednesday as Museum Woodstock hosted a public information centre in regards to future plans involving Southside pond and Cedar creek. Concerned residents voiced their opinions following a presentation of the preferred plans for the pond and creek. The preferred plan for the pond is to rehabilitate the existing pond and add sediment forebay. Woodstock City Engineer Harold DeHaan added more information, "We want to keep Southside pond similar to how it is now, the purposed plans will create two underwater bays. We will also do some surface work including adding some trees and adding some lookout points." As for the creek the preferred plan is to rehabilitate the creek as a natural channel. DeHaan on the creek, "We want to eliminate the vertical concrete walls that are there now, we also want to add some ripple pools to make it more friendly for the aquatic life." The creek received a subpar grade from the Upper Thames Authority, which prompted the potential changes to the creek and pond. Woodstock resident Don Wilson says, "All we have to do is maintain what we have, we just need to make a few repairs, there is no reason to spend a fortune on it." It has been close to 18 years since the last time the sediment in Southside pond was last cleaned out. DeHaan said he hopes to have a plan in city council chambers by September.
