"This will not be one individual that fixes this problem. It's going to be our community that rallies around it..."
WOODSTOCK - A public meeting about suicide prevention will be taking place at Goff Hall at 7 pm on Thursday May 26th.
Those who attend can learn more about some of the mental health services the city has to offer and who they can talk to during a time of crisis.
Councillor Shawn Shapton says the members of the public will also be able speak their minds.
"We're going to give the community an opportunity to voice their concerns and to be heard. I think too often we are running away from some of the hard questions and this is not an easy topic to discuss."
Members from local mental health organizations, the school boards, and members of city council will be present.
The meeting was arranged after the number of youth suicides in Woodstock increased over the past couple of months. Shapton believes the community needs to stand together to address this problem.
"This will not be one individual that fixes this problem. It's going to be our community that rallies around it to really understand and become educated on this very difficult subject."
