If you're looking to clean out some of your unused Christmas decorations, the City of Woodstock will gladly take them.
WOODSTOCK - It's out with the old and in with the new...to you!
The City of Woodstock is hosting the 6th annual Christmas Decoration Exchange at Goff Hall, Saturday from 7:30 to 11:00 am.
Manager of Culture for the city, Karen Houston says people are welcomed to drop off their unwanted Christmas decorations Thursday and Friday between 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Goff Hall. "This is the wonderful part of it, it is absolutely anything that has the theme of Christmas. So it can be decorations that you've decided no longer fits what you want to decorate your house with, it can be lights interior and exterior lights, it can be actual Christmas wrapping paper anything that you would use for crafting, anything of that nature at all- including Christmas trees, we will take."
Then come Saturday morning, the public is welcomed to come and shop for free. Houston says all of the items will be sorted for the public's shopping convenience. "So if you're looking for Christmas candles and nothing else, they'll be on one table; so you can come on Saturday morning between 7:30 and 11:00 and it's all for free. You basically come, you pick it up and you leave. So if you're looking for something in particular, for instance I know lots of people are looking for Christmas trees or lights or those sorts of things, you can come in and you can plug in the lights, you can look at the Christmas tree and you can see if it something you actually want to take home."
According to the Houston, the Decoration Exchange was originally started as a recycling program for city residents. "I think that was really important when the Winter Lights Committee actually started, it was one of their mandates was to actually be environmental. So the whole idea of being 'green' of recycling that this doesn't end up in a landfill and it's useful. The thing is that a lot of these things, it's not like they're broken, they're perfectly usable and would be of use to someone."
