One person is dead and a firefighter was injured after the second fatal fire in Woodstock in the span of a week.
WOODSTOCK - One person is dead after a fatal fire in Woodstock this morning.
Firefighters were called out to the blaze on 38 Kensington Street around 5:37 am. The house was fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke billowing out in front of the house when crews arrived. A primary search of the residence located a single fatality.
A firefighter was also injured in the blaze and was sent to the Woodstock General Hospital and later released.
An investigation into the origin and cause will be conducted by the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Slager says this is a fatal reminder of how crucial basic fire safety is in the home.
"While a cause for this tragic incident has not yet been determined, we cannot stress basic fire safety enough. Ensuring every level of your home has a working smoke alarm can literally be the difference between life and death."
