OXFORD COUNTY - Impaired driving numbers from the Festive RIDE campaign are up this year in the West Region, which includes Oxford County.
During the campaign between November 23rd and January 2nd, officers conducted 1,461 RIDE programs across the West Region in 2019/2020. During that time, officers charged 156 drivers with impaired driving and 93 drivers were issued a warn range suspension.
The previous year, officers charged 136 drivers with impaired driving, however they did issue more warn range suspensions with 115.
This year's campaign may be over, but OPP West Region members will continue their efforts to educate the public and enforce Ontario's impaired driving laws. Ontario citizens are reminded to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or drugs and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect that they have consumed alcohol or drugs.
If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1.
