Oxford County Public Health has recorded the first confirmed case of influenza in Oxford County this season.
Oxford County Health has it's first confirmed case of influenza in the community.
An adult has tested positive for the influenza A strain and had to be hospitalized. Health officials warn that the confirmed case is an indication that influenza is circulation in Oxford County. Surrounding areas like Brant, Waterloo Region and Perth County also have confirmed cases and over 200 cases have been confirmed in the Province.
Oxford Public Health is encouraging people to the get the flu shot. The vaccine is still available from participating family doctors’ offices, health care professionals, or participating pharmacies and at Public Health by appointment.
Some tips to prevent the flu:
- Stay home until you have been without a fever for 24 hours and are feeling better.
- Get rest and drink fluids.
- Cough into a tissue or sleeve. Discard used tissues immediately.
- Wash hands frequently using soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Don’t share anything that goes in your mouth, such as utensils, drinking glasses or toothbrushes.
- Clean frequently touched objects like telephones and remotes often.
