OXFORD COUNTY - $110,000 raised for 'Food For Friends' in 2016.
Every little bit helps, and no where is that more evident than in Operation Sharing's Food for Friends Program.
Over the course of the year about $110,000 was collected thanks to the people of Oxford County.
Public Relations for Operation Sharing Vanessa Giuliano says the need was steady throughout the year but not everyone who uses the program needs it on a monthly basis.
"So they can use it every six weeks because they need to, or they can access it once a year in an emergency. So sometimes it's a little difficult to pinpoint, but I do know there are about 700 families using the service."
Operation Sharing hopes that spirit of generosity continues in Oxford County in 2017. Cashiers at grocery stores will still be asking if you would like to make a donation to Food for Friends at the checkout.
Guiliano says even those 25 cent donations can go a long way.
"That money is collected and given to Operation Sharing and they can then give out a card to the patrons and they can use that card at the grocery stores and buy food for themselves with some dignity."
The Food for Friends Program has no overhead administrative cost, so the money donated goes directly to the people who need it.
