Yogesh Patel was sentenced to 11 years in a federal penitentiary today after pleading guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking, forging a false document as well as fraud and theft over $5,000.
WOODSTOCK - A former Woodstock Pharmacist has been sentenced to 11 years in a federal penitentiary.
The sentencing hearing for 47 year old Yogesh Patel concluded at the Woodstock Courthouse today.
Patel had pled guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking, forging a false document as well as fraud and theft over $5,000 on April 19th 2017.
Patel used to work as a Pharmacist at the Rexall Pharmacy on Springbank Ave when he stole 5,000 fentanyl patches and 1,500 hydromorphine pills using a sophisticated system. While working at the Rexall it was also Patel's job to make sure all narcotics were accounted for and safely distributed.
The Judge described Patel's crimes as a "multi-faceted breach of trust" but found the Crown's request of 15 years in a federal penitentiary defeated Patel's chances of rehabilitation.
