A Woodstock Fire Department incentive program gave a William Street residence two working smoke alarms. A life saving gesture as it turns out.
WOODSTOCK- Two months ago the Woodstock Fire Department's annual Fire Prevention Week randomly checked homes to see if they had working smoke alarms. Luckily for two Woodstock residents, their home was one that recieved free smoke alarms that saved their lives yesterday.
"This year during Fire Prevention Week the theme was working smoke alarms save lives and we did a pizza promotion where crews went out with a random pizza delivery each night of the week and if the occupant had working smoke alarms we paid for the pizza," said Lisa Woods, Woodstock Fire Department Public Information Coordinator.
One delivery visited the residence on William street that caught fire early Saturday morning.
"In this case they did not have working smoke alarms, instead of paying for the pizza we gave them two free smoke alarms and followed up to make sure they were installed correctly"
Emergency services were called to the William street residence around 3 a.m Saturday morning to reports of a fire. Crews were able to contain the inferno to one room, however smoke damage caused an estimated $30,000 worth of damage.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
