Full-day Kindergarten will be implemented province-wide and how it is impacting local daycares.
OXFORD COUNTY- 4 year olds across the province will begin full day kindergarten in less than a week. Over 5 years ago the province decided that they would make kindergarten full-days. Since then schools have had to renovate and create classrooms fit for 4 years old. Additions include washrooms within the classrooms and interactive learning spaces.
TVSB Manager of Full-day Kindergarten Holly Gerrits says the decision to "we had to look at if there was a child care centre within the school we wanted to respect the fact that the 4 and 5 year olds would move be moving into full day kindergarten which would take away from their revenue and financial stability."
Executive Director of Good Beginnings Nursery, Janett Bragg says enrollment numbers have dropped.
"We will really feel the impact this fall, however our board of directors had the foresight to participate in some strategic planning and kind of plan for this becasue we've known for 5 years that this has been coming..."
"...We've focused on our before and afterschool programs we know how important they are to our community and to our organization."
