The funding will cover up to 90 percent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $3,000,000, which includes design, construction, renewal and more. Applications are open until November 22nd.

OXFORD COUNTY -  The Ontario government will be making roadways and bridges safer to help municipalities and the communities in the area.

They are now accepting applications from municipalities for funding under the Connecting Links Program, which was announced by Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman in a press release on Friday.

Hardeman says that connecting links are better and more beneficial for the communities.

"In Oxford, roads such as Oxford/Simcoe Street in Tillsonburg can benefit from the Connecting Links Program which helps keep our roads safe and reliable for everyone."

Connecting links are used to connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing with municipal roads or bridges.

The funding will cover up to 90 percent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $3,000,000, which includes design, construction, renewal and more.

Hardeman says the program will also benefit the economy.

"This is an important opportunity to help municipalities keep our roads safe and support our local economy. Strong and reliable infrastructure will not only benefit our local economy, but also help us get home to our families quicker and safer."

The province provided $30,000,000 to support Connecting Links projects across Ontario in 2019-2020, including a reconstruction project on Oxford and Simcoe Street which cost $1,578,461.

Applications are open until November 22nd.
