Garbage and recycling collection in the county is changing with a new schedule and a new method for recycling.
OXFORD COUNTY - Residents in Oxford County are about to notice some big changes to the way their garbage and recycling is collected.
Starting on September 14th collection dates will change for most residents and they will be moving to a 5 day system where recycling is picked up at the same time as your garbage. The only community not impacted by the change is Woodstock. Waste Management and Rural Properties Supervisor Dave Vermeeren tells Heart FM the changes should actually make life easier for most residents.
"We are going to a single stream recycling, so we are going to pick up both the containers and the fibres in the same truck so the truck will be split for garbage and recycling, so recycling is going to be a lot easier now, not having to separate out the materials."
New curbside collection calendars have been mailed this month to homes and businesses in the County. Also if you want to find out when your collection dates are or would like to know what can and cannot be collected you can download the new wasteline app to your mobile device which you can find at www.wasteline.ca.
When the new program comes into effect on September 14, more items will be accepted for recycling, including:
Disposable coffee cups
Plastic bags (gathered and tied in one bag)
Empty aerosol containers
Spiral wound containers (frozen juice and chip containers)
Thermofoam and polystyrene styrofoam (meat trays, takeout containers)
