Police say they have seen a spike in the amount of graffiti in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are noticing a spike in the amount of graffiti in the friendly city.
They are hoping to reach out to the public to Report it and Remove it. Graffiti is any writing or drawing on a surface without the permission of the owner. It is an act of vandalism and it places a significant burden on the city according to police. It also increases the fear of crime in the area and it costs a lot of money to remove it.
Graffiti Prevention Tips
- Apply graffiti resistant coatings to protect your walls
- Install video surveillance in isolated areas
- Increase lighting and visibility in vulnerable areas
- Restrict access to walls by planting “creepers” such as ivy or thorny bushes
- Use chain link instead of solid fences to avoid providing a canvas
If you witness an act of graffiti “in Progress”, call the Woodstock Police Service at 911. Remember to be specific about the location. If you would like to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers 519-421-TIPS (8477) or toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
