HICKSON - The Hickson Tigers will be representing Oxford County at the U18 Canadian Fastball Championships in Fredericton New Brunswick.
Hickson is one of three Ontario teams to qualify for the tournament after placing third at the qualifier in Tavistock. Head Coach Dave McLaren tells Heart FM he thinks the team will represent the County well at the tournament. "We have got a good solid ball team with some good pitching, and good on defence and hitting and we think we will be competitive and have a good enough team to win, we know some of the competition, New Hamburg has a good team and Campellford is a strong team and we have beaten them before."
The Tigers will play 9 games in the week long tournament starting on Monday August 10th to the 16th. The team is made up of players from across Oxford with players from Woodstock, Embro, Tavistock, Innerkip and of course Hickson.
McLaren says the team is hosting a bottle drive on Saturday in Hickson and will be touring the town collecting empties to help pay for the trip. They will also travel to your house to pick up empties if you want to help and you can get in touch with McLaren at 226-567-0886.
