Ingersoll Rotary Club Plans Major Funding Contribution

In honour of their 25th anniversary the Ingersoll Rotarians want to put $100 000 toward a new recreational facility

INGERSOLL - The Rotary Club of Ingersoll celebrated their 25th anniversary with a major announcement.

Many of the past presidents from over 2 decades were in attendance at the Elm Hurst Inn last night. Current President of the Ingersoll Rotary Club, Terry Gough, spoke to Heart FM about the special presentation. "We decided because our arena is coming to the end of its life, and the town has already decided that they should look into a new facility - we decided to step up. The Rotary Club of Ingersoll is willing to make a significant funding commitment to a new facility if they should decide to do it." Upon town council approval $100 000 would go towards the creation of the new multi-use recreational facility as the current arena is nearing its 60th anniversary.

The Rotary Club has members on 7 continents worldwide and Gough feels it is important to fund projects in an area that have treated them well over the past 25 years. "We thought after being here for 25 years that we needed a significant project and this is one that our club members have talked about for a long time. We thought that we should push the town council along to know that they have our support. We enjoy doing what we do in the community." Although many details have yet to be released Gough added the facility could include baseball diamonds, a recreation hall, a seniors centre as well as replacing the current arena.

A Rotarian who is also the Mayor of Ingersoll Ted Comiskey was all smiles last night and cannot wait for this topic to appear at council. "It's fantastic, Ingersoll has been thinking about this for years. We now have a committee together, through the parks department, and now to have the Rotary Club step up it is something that we need for the community kids especially - they have to have it. To have this brought forward - the council is going to be ecstatic."
The group also announced their improvements surrounding polio and their hopes to eradicate the disease worldwide by 2018.
