INGERSOLL - The town of Ingersoll is already starting to think about Canada's 150th birthday.
Ingersoll hasn't had a major Canada Day celebration in years, and at their last council meeting they agreed to throw a big party for the 150th anniversary in 2017. Councillor Gordon Lesser tells Heart FM why they want to have the big celebrations two years from now.
"Like let's face it, it's Canada, it is a great country and sometimes we don't appreciate just how special it is until you start talking to people from other places, so let's celebrate our country, it's 150 years and let's put on a great show."
Lesser says Ingersoll has earmarked $25,000 for the event, which would likely include a big fireworks display and possibly some live music.
He notes the funding number may change, however council wanted to earmark some funds so they were ready for the 150th celebrations. The funding will be budgeted over the next two years to help soften the blow.
