During an interview with Heart FM this morning, Oxford MP Arpan Khanna talked about his first few months in office.
WOODSTOCK - It has been almost five months since Arpan Khanna won the federal by-election in Oxford County and became our Conservative Member of Parliament.
During an interview on the Heart FM morning show today, he said these past few months have been incredible.
"It is so different. I am the son of factory workers, I come from a humble beginning and my parents never thought that their son would ever be a public servant at that level. For me, walking in that chamber every single day I reaffirm the belief of fighting for our community every single day and it's a blessing."
He also talked about how his family immigrated to Canada years ago.
"Mom and Dad came in the early 1980s or late 1970s from India, Punjab specifically. Punjab is an agricultural state so Mom's family were all farmers and they still farm today and Dad is working class. I have spoken about that in Parliament as well saying this is where I come from, this is what I stand for with my values and it has been a blessing."
Khanna says it has been an honour to represent the people in Oxford County in Ottawa over the past few months. With the cost of living so high right now, he says the Conservative Party is doing everything it can to fight against the carbon tax.
"When you tax the farmer who grows the food and you tax the trucker who ships the food, you ultimately punish the Canadian who buys the food. So our party is holding rallies across the country to axe the tax and make sure that Canadians could live again and they could heat, eat and house themselves."
Khanna is going to be hosting several events over the holiday season including a Christmas Open House at the Woodstock Legion on December 9th and a New Years Skate at the Tillsonburg Community Centre on January 5th. Further details will be posted on his Facebook page.
