The OPP are warning people with an iTunes account about a new scam in the region.
Police are warning the public about a new scam involving your iTunes account.
OPP have received a few complaints where a person received what appeared to be a legitimate email from iTunes about a $50 charge that shouldn't have been administered and that they could apply for a refund.
The link for the refund requires you to submit your personal information and credit card numbers. Police are letting the public know that this is a scam designed to get your credit card information. If you ever get an email like this from any company, make sure to follow up with them to ensure it is indeed legitimate.
Tips on how to spot and avoid phishing scams
Protect your computer with anti-virus software, spyware filters, email filters and firewall programs.
Contact the financial institution immediately and report your suspicions.
Do not reply to any email that requests your personal information.
Look for misspelled words.
Always report phishing or 'spoofed' emails.
If you've received one of these suspicious emails, report it to info@antifraudcentre.ca or the business that it appears to be from.
