EZT council, staff and the public are saying goodbye to Municipal Clerk Brenda Junker.
EAST-ZORRA TAVISTOCK - Municipal Clerk for East-Zorra Tavistock, Brenda Junker is wrapping up a 38 year career in administration for the township.
An Open House is being held at Craigowan Golf and Country Club to honour her lengthy contribution to the township. The public is being invited to attend and give thanks in the sendoff to Junker as she begins her retirement in mid-December.
East-Zorra Tavistock Mayor Don McKay says Junker's contributions to the Township have been invaluable, "Congratulations from the East-Zorra Tavistock council...38 years of dedicated service, we've been in great hands and we certainly wish her the best in retirement." Mckay adds, "...it's more than doing the job, it's all that knowledge after all those years of being a clerk and looking after our taxes in East-Zorra Tavistock."
East-Zorra Tavistock CAO Jeff Carswell says Junker has been, "a tremendous asset really because being here so long you get to know everything and everybody that's been a tremendous asset to know what's going on...especially in one of her main roles which was property taxation." Carswell calls Junker's retirement a significant loss to the township, "one of the big losses is just that knowledge of whats gone on in the past even...has been really, really valuable."
Carswell said finding an appropriate replacement for Junker has been challenging because of Junker's unique skill set.
"She started out more on the property tax side of things, but has grown and evolved into general administration and over the past few years taking over the Municipal Clerk position."
Junker started working for the Township in 1976 in an administrative role and says after 38 years of service it's going to be difficult adjusting to retired life. "On some days it feels really good and other days it feels really stressful because I'm not quite sure how not to work." Junker says the first thing she plans to do in her retirement is tackle reading a large pile of books. Junker is one of the longest serving Township employees. Junker says the best part about her career, "has been serving the residents of East-Zorra Tavistock for so many years and the friendships that I've built..."
Junker's retirement Open House is being held at Craigowan Golf and Country Club on Friday November 28th, 2014 from 2:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m. A presentation will take place at 4:00 p.m.
