Keep Your Eyes Peeled on Devil's Night

Woodstock Police will be on the lookout for ne'er-do-wells tonight.

Before we can get to those Halloween treats, we first have to deal with those Devil's Night tricks.

Devil's Night is traditionally a time for all kinds of mischief, and it looks like they've even gotten a head start this year. Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they plan to ramp things up today. "We will have a lot of extra police and our auxiliary out on patrol. And I would just suggest for young people who think that's a good idea to maybe think twice about it because they could still be charged criminally."

"For the most part we don't have a lot of issues in the city," VanLeeuwen says. "I don't think you can 100% prevent these things from happening because you're still going to have - and it is primarily youth - you're still going to have those young people that will make a bad choice and still damage people's decorations."

The front line of defence for Devils' Night will be citizens - VanLeeuwen asks the public to keep their eyes peeled for anything suspicious. "If you see young people out at 3 or 4 in the morning and there's no reason for it, call police and we'll come by and we will check things out and see what they're doing and what they're up to. So if we can just work together as a community and have our eyes out, watching people, and try to make this Halloween as safe as possible."
