A slap in the face to rural Ontario. That's how a decision by the Health Minister to allow 80 long term care beds to be moved out of Oxford County is being portrayed. MPP Ernie Hardeman says it looks like Deb Matthews has made her decision to allow the beds to be moved to London when Bonnie Brae closes in 2014. The Bonnie Brae facility has fallen behind the times, and has been rated a "D" class facility. Matthews' letter cites an opinion of the Southwest LHIN, saying moving the beds from Tavistock to London will not make a big impact. But as we've heard from people in the village, this decision will not only mean a loss of the beds, but the loss of a major employer. Hardeman says that shouldn't stop the public from making their voices heard. "It's unlikely that the Minister would change her mind. But it's only public opinion that might make her change her mind so the people letting the Minister know of their concern about the beds moving out of Tavistock might be a good idea."
