London's Loss is Woodstock's Gain

While Woodstock is celebrating, London is lamenting. Today's front page headline in the London Free Press says London Council "Blew it" with Sysco. It was believed London had the best opportunity to land the new Sysco distribution centre, but council reportedly wouldn't pay an extra $725,000 to grade the land. In the end, Sysco chose Woodstock and company official Rodney Stroud says the Friendly City was the clear winner. "There's a lot that comes into play when we make these decisions. Every community/municipality that we went to to ask for their opinion on whether they want Sysco to be involved with them, brought different aspects to of their business and their opportunities to us. I'm pleased to say that this community was the best choice." London City Councillor Stephen Orser says their council blew the opportunity to give 250 people a better future. The plant is expected to create 250-350 jobs in Woodstock. The 400,000 square-foot food distribution warehouse will be built in the Commerce Way Business Park between Parkinson Road and the 403. (Pictured below) Sobeski gave much of the credit for closing the deal to city staff and city council. "Our objective was that when Sysco officials came in there wasn't a single question that they asked, they weren't walking out the door without an answer that was definite. And I think we succeeded. It was an excellent performance by staff. Again they (Sysco) concluded that Woodstock has a reputation to produce and it was demonstrated with that meeting."
