The Ingersoll Safe Cycling Committee is providing bikes to those less fortunate in the community.

The organization is fixing bicycles and providing them for children who can't afford to buy one.
Chair of the Ingersoll Safe Cycling Committee, Sam Horton says they want to see kids having fun and being safe.
"Clearly we want to see our children active. We want to see them on bicycles that are safe and because that just by virtue of our name, the Ingersoll Safe Cycling Committee. We are committed to assisting members of our community to not only have bicycles, but to have safe bicycles. So one kind of leads to the other and in the end it draws good attention to our committee by providing these types of programs to members of our community."
Horton says the committee have been helping the community for the last six years. He says they simply just want to help others.
"We certainly hope it has a positive effect on the people of Ingersoll. We hope we're drawing attention to our goals and that we hope that people understand there's nothing in this for the members of the committee except just to try and help others. And obviously if we're able to have more people riding bikes, we'll have more interest in cycling and we have more people that are interested in the committee, in our work."
Since they started in 2013, Horton says the committee have given out 50 bicycles.
"These types of things we hope build strong communities in the end where they realize that there's ways of having assistance, but to give back too in the end."
The initiative ties into Family Cycling Day on June 1st. Proceeds from that event will go towards purchasing new bikes for those less fortunate.
