Woodstock Police officers visited more than 20 locations in the downtown core between January 12th and January 23rd.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police officers recently cracked down on open-air drug use in the Friendly City.
They visited more than 20 publicly accessible locations in the downtown core between January 12th and January 23rd.
According to a post on the Woodstock Police Service Facebook page, they had interactions with 19 people in 22 different incidents and wound up laying 18 charges against eight of them when all was said and done.
Six of the charges were for trespassing, three were under the Safe Streets Act, and four of them were drug related. Officers also laid seven charges under the Criminal Code with the offences ranging from mischief to motor vehicle theft.
The Woodstock Police Service says it recognizes that addiction is a complex mental health issue, but adds open consumption of drugs in public spaces is not tolerated.
