Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch recently met with the President of Western University at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto.

Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch recently met with the President of Western University at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto.

Dr. Amit Chakma discussed disruptive technologies at the meeting. He also stressed the need for more research and government advocacy. After the meeting he told Birtch Oxford County is setting a great example.

"He was very impressed with the leadership that we're demonstrating not just here in Ontario but across the nation and he's well aware of some of the initiatives."

Birtch and Chakma also discussed Oxford's multiple post secondary partnerships and the sustainability cluster.

"When I spoke to him about some of our great academic partnerships I think we was very excited about the opportunity of being able to send some PHD and grad students out way.

Oxford County currently has partnerships with Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, British Columbia), UVC University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia). Stanford University (Stanford, California), University of Ottawa (Ottawa), York University (Toronto), Ryerson University (Toronto). Fleming College (Peterborough) and Conestoga College (Kitchener).
