UNITED KINGDOM - The Irish actor known for playing Professor Dumbledore in six of the Harry Potter movies has passed away.
Sir Michael Gambon was 82 years old when he died in hospital with his family by his side, following a bout of pneumonia.
His career lasted more than five decades spanning TV, theatre, and radio. Some of his film credits also include roles in Gosford Park, The King's Speech, and Paddington. He first appeared as Professor Dumbledore in the third Harry Potter film, replacing Richard Harris who passed away in 2002 after filming the second movie.
Gambon was knighted for his services to drama and the entertainment industry in 1998.
