Motorcycle Thefts in Woodstock

Staff photo

Woodstock Police responded to 14 vehicle thefts last month, and six of them were motorcycles.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service has some tips to combat motorcycle theft in the Friendly City.

Officers responded to 14 vehicle thefts in July and six of them were motorcycles. They also recovered 10 stolen vehicles, not necessarily connected to the July thefts.

If you own a motorcycle, police say it's a good idea to park it in a locked garage or in a well-lit and visible area that's covered by security cameras. It's also important to never leaving your keys in or near the vehicle.

Police say you can install anti-theft devices to make it hard to move and a concealed GPS tracking device just in case. You can also keep note of the VIN number, the licence plate, identifying features, and have current photos that you can share if need be.

In terms of just vehicles in general, police say you should always lock it when it's unattended and take any valueable items with you.
