It is National Volunteer Week and it is a great time to celebrate those who put in their time.
WOODSTOCK - Organizations across the nation will be celebrating volunteers this National Volunteer week.
Among the organizations participating will be Habitat for Humanity, who will be celebrating their volunteers' contributions.
Volunteer Coordinator Kendra Forrest says they'll be holding a celebration for all of their volunteers, some of who are celebrating upcoming milestones.
"Right now we are looking at celebrating our volunteers that are coming up on milestones. So some of our volunteers have been with us for over ten years, so we really want to do a shoutout to those volunteers that have been with us for a long time. We have some co-op students that are leaving us this year that we want to kind of have them go out with a big celebration and bring everybody, including our staff in on celebrating the volunteers locally."
Forrest says volunteers put in over 40,000 hours with Habitat for Humanity last year alone.
Forrest says the organization has great opportunities for volunteers, and they're currently looking for volunteers to join them at their ReStore in Woodstock.
"We are currently seeking for volunteers to join our Woodstock Restore Team. So the Restore is a good place to put the talents to work from customer service to furniture repair. Our Restore offer enormous amounts of volunteer opportunities towards individuals' interests and skills, so if we have an individual that is looking to come out during the week that has experience in plumbing for example, we need those particular volunteers to come and helps us with testing all of our products before they go out on the shelves. So we are a retail outlet but there is quite a bit of opportunity within the Restore to expand in different areas."
She adds they'll take volunteers with a variety of skills, no matter what their level of experience is in construction.
Habitat for Humanity is one of the community's organization who relies on it's volunteers' contributions. It is a non-for-profit organization that builds simple, affordable homes for local families.
