NDP candidate Zoe Kunschner says she has heard many complaints from residents about the lengthy election.
Right now it is a two person race to represent Oxford County as the Member of Parliament in the October 19th election.
Incumbent Conservative Dave MacKenzie and NDP candidate Zoe Kunschner are the only ones to announce their candidacy for Oxford. Kunschner tells Heart FM this is one of the most important elections in modern Canadian history and she thinks the people of Oxford County are ready for a change and notes the NDP has been gaining in popularity in the county over the past 15 years.
"Every election, whether it be provincially or federally, the NDP have been taking a larger percentage of the popular vote in Oxford. And the reason I honestly believe is we have very practical, concrete policies; instead of benefiting the wealthiest 15 percent of our country we're putting money back into the pockets of working Canadians."
Kunschner says she has been doing a lot of door knocking in the County and people are angry that this will be the longest election campaign in Canada in nearly 100 years.
"People are very upset with the fact that we are in the longest election that this country has had in over a century. Leading economists and everybody are saying, 'Look we have a sagging economy and yet our Prime Minister has just thrown us into what is going to be one of the most expensive election campaigns in history.'"
She says the biggest issues will be the economy and notes we have 1.3 million Canadians out of work and says the Harper Conservatives have not done enough to provide more jobs.
"And I mean people are realizing after 10 years Harper's plan is not working; it's not benefiting the majority of Canadians, this election is not helping anyone, our farmers are faced with having their supply management systems completely dismantled because of this Trans Pacific partnership."
Right now no candidate has been name for the Green or Liberal Parties in Oxford.
